Ryu Hyun Jin picked "health" and "team adaptation" as the keywords for the new season.

Ryu headed to the United States on February 1. Ryu is scheduled to stay in Los Angeles for three to four days to pack up, and will travel to Florida to join the spring camp training for pitchers and catchers on April 14.

Last year, Ryu pitched in 29 games and had an all-time season with 14 wins, five losses and a 2.32 ERA. He was the most impressive player in the Major League, and also ranked second in the National League Cy Young vote. Ryu, who proved his worth, signed a four-year, $80 million contract with Toronto through the FA.

Before leaving South Korea, Ryu interviewed that injuries and team adaptation are the key. "I'm in great shape right now. The focus is on getting used to the players as Toronto is a new team. Increase in the number of pitches will naturally be raised in exhibition games. Adapting to the team atmosphere is the first thing to do," he said.

There were no special injuries in 2019 season, which was an opportunity to play a wide range of games. Ryu said, "I'm still confident in my health. However, it is important to take care of yourself. We will always be able to play good games without injuries."

Ryu ranked fifth place in Major League Baseball's best starting pitcher list by MLB.com. "I think we should do well as a starting pitcher for a team. We will always prepare with the same mind and play without any pressure," he said. About being selected for the opening match, he answered "Nothing is so certain. We should show enough skill in exhibition games. It's an exhibition game, but will prepare just like the season."
